Nursing Careers Awareness Month – November 2021

During the month of November, the Imagine America Foundation is celebrating Nursing Careers Awareness Month. We’ve always seen nurses as essential workers, and that’s only been made even more clear over the last two years—which is why we’re so excited to share some important resources about nursing careers with you.

Registered nurses earned a median annual salary of more than $75,000 in 2020, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). And over the next decade, the BLS projects that jobs for RNs will grow by about 9%, which is about average growth for all occupations.

If you or someone you know is interested in building a career as a nurse, helping care for people in your community, tune in for our podcast series on nursing school, nursing careers, and nursing on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Imagine America Radio will present four episodes with some of our most trusted school partners to our community of high school counselors, workforce development boards, VA offices, parents, and students.

Stay tuned for insights into the world of nursing—especially in the face of an aging population, global health crises, and skilled worker shortages.

The Difference Between an ADN and a BSN

There’s more than one educational path to becoming a nurse. But how do you know which one is right for you?

Two of the most common programs to pursue are an ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) and a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing). Like most associate and bachelor’s degrees, an ADN typically takes two years to complete while a BSN is usually a three- or four-year commitment. In both cases, however, accelerated programs are available to complete your education more quickly.

As a shorter program, an ADN can be a great way to get into the nursing field faster. A BSN, meanwhile, can help you advance further in your nursing career, offering a more in-depth study and preparation for leadership roles.

Which program is right for you, depending on what you hope to learn, your career goals, and your capacity to enroll in a program while continuing to work and keep up with family responsibilities? Learn more from Rasmussen University about the differences—and benefits—of ADN and BSN programs.

The Future of Nursing Careers

Brought to you by:

Bryant & Stratton

They say the only constant is change, and that can certainly be said for the future of nursing school.

As the health care industry responds to new health crises like the COVID-19 pandemic, as best practices for nursing work continue to evolve, and as technology has a profound impact on how nursing education can most effectively be delivered, what does the future of nursing school look like?

For anyone considering hands-on training to become a nurse, it’s important to think about what that education might look like for you. That’s why we’re talking with Bryant & Stratton College about the value of going to school to become a nurse, what to look for in a nursing program, and how nursing education is changing in response to the needs of the industry.

Practical Nursing

When it comes to deciding on a new career, there’s no shortage of options out there. So why should you choose nursing?

Getting to help people, supporting your community, and putting your math, science, and people skills to use are among the popular reasons for students to pick nursing. The shortage of nurses, particularly since the start of the pandemic, has also encouraged people to think about nursing. But you may have your own reasons!

Hear from our friends at Porter and Chester Institute about practical nursing and why people are choosing to pursue an education to help them begin a career as a practical nurse.

Why I Chose to Become a Vocational Nurse

Vocational nurses can practice in a wide range of health care settings, including long-term care facilities, acute care facilities, large community clinics, and more.

And with the country continuing to suffer the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, nursing shortages, and a population that is continuing to age, there is a huge need for trained vocational nurses to support their communities.

We wanted to hear from Integrity College of Health, one of our valued member schools, about vocational nursing, hands-on training programs, projected career opportunities—and why this career path could be the right choice for you.
