Jobs for Diesel Technicians: Luxury Vehicles

Diesel mechanics are trained for working on more than just trucks—including luxury cars

When you’re out on the open road, you may think it’s only the 18-wheelers and other large trucks that are relying on diesel power. But the truth is that many luxury cars also have diesel engines under the hood.

So if you enjoy working with your hands and like cars—and if you’re looking for a new career—training to become a diesel mechanic or technician could be the perfect fit.

Diesel Engines

For people who love cars, becoming an auto mechanic is often a popular career choice. But if what you really want is to work on high-performance or luxury cars, you’ll need to know your away around a diesel engine before you can get a handle on these high-end vehicles.

Why are diesel cars preferred by many auto aficionados and professional drivers? It starts with greater fuel economy, greater durability, and greater torque. And, of course, you can’t beat that sound.

They’re rugged, dependable, and typically longer lasting than conventional gasoline engines. Diesel cars are also known for their higher resale value, meaning that their long-term maintenance is of particular importance.

Diesel Tech

If you’ve always wanted to work on luxury cars like BMWs, Jaguars, or Land Rovers, having diesel technology training could help you get the job of your dreams.

Not to mention that diesel technicians and mechanics are trained to support the diesel technology that is critical for industries from manufacturing and agriculture to transportation and shipping. These techs are integral to installing, maintaining, and repairing those diesel systems.

In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that nearly 14,000 jobs will be added nationwide between 2018 and 2028. That means a growth of about 5% for diesel service technician and mechanic jobs during that period. Across a range of roles in diesel technology, technicians and mechanics earned annual median pay of $48,500—or hourly wages of more than $23 per hour—in 2019.

Do you have what it takes to maintain diesel systems in luxury vehicles? Are you ready to begin a new career path?
