Over $450,000 in Scholarships Awarded to Career College Students

Washington, D.C. (February 6, 2008) – Rising education costs should never get in the way of a good student's dream to become a leader. With the help of the Imagine America Foundation, students who demonstrate dedication to their education are breaking down barriers between themselves and their dreams.

One hundred students from participating Imagine America colleges have been awarded the Imagine America Promise scholarship in the amount of $500 each. This scholarship will go toward tuition at the recipient's career college.

Recent recipients are students from 36 different career colleges and campus locations across the U.S. These 100 students have maintained above a 3.5 GPA, as well as a 95% or higher attendance record.

This brings the total amount of scholarship funds awarded to $450,000 since the Imagine America Promise scholarship program was created in 2002. With the help of sponsors, such as Nelnet Inc., The Sallie Mae Fund, Bridgestone Firestone Trust Fund, and contributors of the 21st Century Workforce Fund, this $450,000 in scholarships has been awarded to over 550 students.

The Imagine America Promise scholarship is the actualization of the Foundation's promise to assist students who are currently attending participating Imagine America colleges by way of the Imagine America high school scholarship and whose exceptional grades show a strong commitment to their program of study. Eligible awardees must have received an Imagine America high school scholarship previously and be nominated by a faculty member or representative of their current career college.

“Scholarships are a very important part of the Foundation,” said Robert L. Martin, Imagine America Foundation president. “It is rewarding to be able to assist in molding tomorrow's leaders by helping them finance their education.”

Imagine America Promise scholarships were created by the Imagine America Foundation to address the increasing costs of education and continued lack of scholarship aid specifically designed for career college students.
