In one sense, it serves as a family tree for career-oriented education.
Washington, D.C. (June 21, 2007) – In one sense, it serves as a family tree for career-oriented education. But in another, it’s the story of an educational approach steeped in a long-standing tradition of excellence and quality instruction.
Imagine America Foundation has announced the release of its new historical look at career colleges, called In Service to America: Celebrating 165 Years of Career and Professional Education. The Foundation, the research and scholarship-providing arm of the career college sector of higher education, made the official announcement June 15 at the Career College Association Convention in New Orleans, La. The book uses more than 200 photos and other materials collected from career college archives nationwide, the Imagine America Foundation and the Career College Association. These items culminate to tell the phenomenal history of the sector.
Sponsored and published by the McGraw-Hill Career College Group, In Service to America: Celebrating 165 Years of Career and Professional Education explores the development of career college representative associations in the United States from 1841 to the present. Telling a story of dramatic growth, the book examines the importance career colleges have had on our nation and its economy.
The stories shared throughout the book mainly reflect the dynamic internal evolution of career college associations, revealing the tenacious drive of these institutions. Exploring the path the first college set out, the book walks readers through the evolution of the career college sector to the sector we know now.
“This book not only tells the story of thousands of career colleges that are the backbone of the technical trade industry of America, or of the associations created to represent career colleges within higher education,” said Robert Martin, President of the Imagine America Foundation. “It is also the story of millions of students which career colleges have served and continue to serve.”
