Lockheed Martin Contributes $25,000 to the Imagine America LDRSHIP Award

Washington, D.C. (April 7, 2008) – Courage. Dedication. Honor. The same qualities exhibited by those who serve America are essential for the successful pursuit of higher education. Now, in support of this vital population, Lockheed Martin is helping those who have served in the military reach their education goals.

Lockheed Martin, the world’s largest aerospace and defense company, recently donated $25,000 to the Imagine America LDRSHIP Award. Lockheed Martin has been an integral sponsor of the LDRSHIP Award since 2004.

“Lockheed Martin is proud to provide scholarship support to America’s military men and women as they transition to new careers of leadership and service in the private sector,” said Fred P. Moosally, president of Lockheed Martin’s Maritime Systems & Sensors business. “I have every confidence that these motivated veterans will use this educational opportunity to excel in their chosen professions.”

“Imagine America Foundation congratulates Lockheed Martin on their continued support of this worthwhile scholarship program,” said Robert L. Martin, President of the Imagine America Foundation. “They’re opening doors for service members who might not otherwise pursue higher education.”

The LDRSHIP Award provides financial assistance to military veterans, including young men and women returning from military service in Iraq and Afghanistan. Eligible recipients include reservist, honorably discharged, retired or active duty military personnel pursuing technical degrees while attending Imagine America-affiliated or Career College Association member institutions.

“This is the nation’s most deserving population of students,” Martin said. “They honor us with their service to America. Now, we’re able to honor them by aiding their education initiatives … and Lockheed Martin has had a large hand in making that possible.”

Recipients of the LDRSHIP Award will be honored at the annual Career College Association convention in June 2008. The acronym LDRSHIP stands for Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless service, Honor, Integrity and Personal courage.
