Imagine America Foundation Salutes Honorees of the 2008 LDRSHIP Award

Washington, DC (Sept 26, 2008) – It takes dedication, motivation and personal strength to accomplish certain goals. The Imagine America Foundation recognizes six outstanding individuals who have shown remarkable achievements throughout their careers as both students and as soldiers in the U.S. Military.

On Tuesday, September 23, 2008, while in Washington, DC, these six outstanding individuals were honored with the Imagine America Foundation’s LDRSHIP Award.

The LDRSHIP Award was established to recognize outstanding career college students who have served their country honorably through their military duty. The award is given annually to men and women nationwide who exemplify: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage.

The awards ceremony took place in a prestigious IAF sponsored event on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, co-hosted by and in cooperation with the Career College Association. Each of the six individuals was presented with a $5,000 cash grant to be used towards completing their career educations.

The 2008 military leaders honored are:

  • Jason Brandon – U.S. Army, Westwood College, Upland, CA
  • Cheryl Carr – U.S. Navy, The Art Institute of Indianapolis, Indianapolis, IN
  • Latonya Davis – U.S. Navy, Herzing College, Atlanta, GA
  • Sharonda Davis – U.S. Navy, Concorde Career Institute, Arlington, TX
  • Hong-ye Huang – U.S. Marine Corps, ECPI Technical College, Glen Allen, VA
  • James Ramirez – U.S. Army, Marine Mechanics Institute, Orlando, FL

“It’s a privilege to honor the 2008 LDRSHIP recipients with this award,” said Robert L. Martin, Imagine America Foundation president. “For their admirable and courageous service to our country, we extend deepest appreciation. It’s now our turn to give something back to them.”

The LDRSHIP Award is available to honorees who are active duty, reservist, honorably discharged or are retired military personnel. In order to qualify for the award, honorees must maintain a minimum 3.5 grade point average and at least a 95% attendance record at an “Imagine America” participating institution.
