Imagine America Foundation Honors Matthew Demaske with LDRSHIP Award

Washington, D.C. (July 28, 2010) – It takes a certain type of person to persevere, as Matthew Demaske has done. He was recently honored with a 2010 LDRSHIP Award from the Imagine America Foundation. Demaske served as part of the United States Marine Corps and is now attending ECPI College of Technology in North Charleston, S.C. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Science/Information Systems.

Demaske received the LDRSHIP Award among six other accomplished men and women. It is given annually by the Imagine America Foundation to recognize the talents and achievements of those who have served in the military and are now attending career colleges. This cash grant of up to $5,000 will assist Demaske in completing his current career education at ECPI.

As a student and member of the military, Demaske exemplifies everything the LDRSHIP Award stands for (Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage). During his time with the United States Marine Corps, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and NATO Medal-ISAF Afghanistan. Since he has been studying at ECPI, Demaske has earned a 4.0 cumulative GPA along with a near-perfect attendance record. It is his hard work and determined mind-set that has helped him get so far.

“I felt that his performance in class – not just academically but professionally and socially – credited him with the qualities of being a great student and a great leader,” said Denise James, ECPI instructor. “I observed that his classmates followed his examples, due to the fact that he maintained a friendly, personable attitude with fellow students.”

The Imagine America Foundation honored its 2010 LDRSHIP Award recipients during an awards luncheon at the annual Career College Association (CCA) Convention and Exposition in Las Vegas on June 10. The LDRSHIP Award is sponsored by Ambassador College Bookstores, Blackboard Pro Ed, and supporters of the Imagine America Foundation’s 21st Century Workforce Fund.

“It’s a privilege to honor the 2010 LDRSHIP recipients with this award for their admirable and courageous service to our country.” said Robert L. Martin, Imagine America Foundation President. “Now it’s our turn to give something back to them.”

To receive the award, applicants must be currently enrolled in an Imagine America or CCA member college, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5, and at least a 95% attendance record.
