DeVry student honored with 2008 LDRSHIP Award
Las Vegas, Nev. (June 27, 2008) – For nearly a decade, Sarah Ambrozik has served our country admirably as a U.S. Army Avionics Mechanic. Currently enrolled at DeVry University pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, she has been honored with the 2008 LDRSHIP Award sponsored by the Imagine America Foundation and Lockheed Martin.
These two organizations chose to honor Ambrozik for her exemplary military and student achievement with a $5,000 cash grant. The LDRSHIP Award, established in 2004, is dedicated to providing financial assistance to young men and women returning from military service in Iraq and Afghanistan.
As part of the annual Career College Association Convention and Exposition, the Imagine America Foundation will host the 2008 LDRSHIP Awards at a sit-down luncheon from noon to 2:15 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2008 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The Imagine America Foundation is the research and scholarship-providing arm of the career college sector.
Ambrozik exemplifies what the LDRSHIP Award stands for: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage, characteristics she honed during her service. While in active duty at Camp Stanley in Korea, she fell in love with the Black Hawk helicopter. This, in turn, ignited her interest in pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology.
Among Ambrozik’s distinguished honors while serving her country were two Army Achievement Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal and the Korea Defense Service Medal.
"DeVry University is all about offering opportunities to students seeking to start a career through furthering their education," said Julio Torres, President of DeVry University – South Florida. "We are proud that the Imagine America Foundation has chosen to honor our student Sarah Ambrozik with its LDRSHIP Award for her honor, integrity and personal courage through her service to our country."
