Christina Jaramillo Wins 2009 Imagine America Foundation LDRSHIP Award

(Washington, D.C.) – The Imagine America Foundation recently awarded their annual 2009 LDRSHIP Award to five worthy individuals in the career school industry. Christina Jaramillo of Syracuse earned the distinguished honor with her work at Provo College in Provo, UT and her service as a member of the United States Air Force.

In 2001, Jaramillo received the U.S. Air Force Aeromedical Technician of the Year award. She worked with a diverse group of doctors and nurses who inspired her to pursue higher education and become a medical professional. During her seven years of active duty, Jaramillo learned valuable skills that will help her prosper in her upcoming nursing career.

“When I heard I received the award, at first I felt disbelief. I was really shocked. I was overwhelmed to be greeted at my classroom door with congratulations from the Campus President and the Program Administrator of the Nursing Department,” Jaramillo said.

While working toward her Associate degree in Nursing, Jaramillo has maintained a 3.93 GPA and perfect attendance. Following graduation she intends to work as a Registered Nurse while studying for her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

The LDRSHIP award is given to exceptional students who demonstrate Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage throughout their education and service in the military.

“It’s a privilege to honor the 2009 LDRSHIP recipients with this award,” said Robert L. Martin, Imagine America Foundation President. “For their admirable and courageous service to our country, we extend deepest appreciation. It’s now our turn to give something back to them.”

The Imagine America Foundation established the LDRSHIP Award in 2004 to recognize and honor exceptional career college students who have served their country honorably in the military and decided to further their education. The LDRSHIP Award offers up to $5,000 in cash grants toward college tuition to active duty, reservist, honorably discharged or retired U.S. military veterans attending a participating Imagine America institution.
