For all the high school seniors out there trying to navigate the maze of financing their college education, not so long ago (at least in my mind) I was also starting college. I remember feeling like a deer caught in headlights. As the first in my family to attend college, I had NO clue how to finance my education. Student loans were my only option, right? Wrong!
Did you know that only about 30 percent of ninth graders will graduate high school with the skills they need to take the next steps in their lives? According to the U.S. Department of Education:
Their future seems bright. All they have to do is graduate high school, and then they're off to college, right? Well, yes, as long as your students don't get tripped up by some of the common senior-year mistakes. Students shouldn't let this stress them out, though. Knowledge is power, and knowing about the obstacles that can keep them from being college-bound can help students avoid them from the start.
